Competition rules

General Information

For the competition, we are looking for works that have not yet been entered in the previous Bolyai Scale Model Shows. Models that are not the independent work of an artist must be entered in the category of group building. In the group building category, the names of all creators must be listed or a team name must be created. The group building category is open and combined both in terms of age and section. Each work is evaluated by the jury based on the corresponding score sheet of its own section. Competitors can enter an unlimited number of models. Regardless of these, we welcome all works to the exhibition.

By entering the competition, the modeller accepts these rules.

We ask all competitor to enter their model glued to a base, because it makes the work of the jury easier during the judging process, and in this way it is safer to remove the model from the tables and it can be transported without damage. The organizers are not responsible for injuries that occurred during the judging of models without a base!

Members of the Bolyai Scale Modell Association can only participate in the competition as exhibitors!

Submission of models

You can register your works on site on October 12, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. You can pre-nominate online until midnight on the Thursday before the competition.

Please place the models on the tables by 11 a.m. on October 12, 2024. We cannot guarantee the judging of works submitted after 11 o’clock.

Classification of models

The jury reserves the right to further spit or combine the categories, to reclassify a given model to another category in justified cases, or to exclude it from the competition. The latter may occur in the case of an entry in wrong league (hobby, master) and/or age group, or in the case of a model that violates grace or good taste. In terms of the number of models, a minimum of 3 works are required in a category to start the category. In the case of fewer enrolled works, the category is merged with a category with similar parameters, if available. A category will be further split down if the jury deems it justified.

If an “improved, opened” category is announced within a section, then the following works must be enrolled in it:

  • models whose box contains photo etching, metal barrel, towing cable, etc. and are also installed,
  • self-built improvments and openings,
  • completely self-built works.

All competitors who accept the competition rules are free to enroll in the Master categories.
Must compete in the master category, who:

  • has a hungarian master’s degree in the given section or
  • Between 2015 and 2023 achieved a gold, silver, or bronze medal position in master, or he achieved a gold medal position in the adult hobby category of the given section, and his score exceeded 80% at Szolnok Scale Model Cup or
  • Between 2015 and 2023 achieved a gold, silver, or bronze medal position in master, or he achieved a gold medal position in the adult hobby category of the given section, and his score exceeded 80% at Bolyai Scale Model Cup.

You can deviate from this only if you do not want to enroll with a model that corresponds to the section of your master’s degree or medal, or the work that won first place. So with an airplane master’s certificate can freely start in the AFV section of the Hobby category, etc. Those who score 90 or more points in the master’s category will receive the master’s certificate, if they do not already have a certificate in the given category and a master’s certificate will be awarded at the competition and lives in Hungary.

In the Hobby categories, corresponding to their age group, all modelers who do not belong to those who are obliged to start in the master category and who accept the competition rules are free to enter. Furthermore, the age groups of the Hobby categories are open upwards, that is, those who want to start in an age group higher than their age group can do so.

All competitors (masters and hobbyists) can compete in the Adult open categories without restrictions.

Judging, evaluation

Age groups under 18: visual inspection, no master’s certificate distribution
Adult age group, hobby categories: visual inspection, no master’s certificate distribution
Adult age group, master categories: normal scoring, no master certificate distribution

After the closing of the entry, the judging begins. Upon request, if the given jury team agrees, it is possible to sit next to the jury for a short time. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in each category, and more of them per category, based on the jury’s decision. A competitor can only receive one award in one category. Not all three types of medals are awarded in all cases. Based on the results of the entered works, it may happen that one or more of them will not be awarded.

Visual judging: The members of the jury will visually select the best competition models (measured according to possibilities at least four), then the order according to the medals is set up

Normal scoring judging: The members of the jury visually select the best competition works (at least five if possible) and score them. If the presentation of the given category requires it, then more or fewer works will be evaluated, even all models of the given category. The score sheets can be viewed after the announcement of the results, and the competitors can request a copy of them. After the competition, the score sheets are not kept by the organizers, meaning that they cannot be viewed later.

Weighted scoring: The members of the jury visually select the best competition works (if possible, at least five) and then score them. The evaluation is based on specific criteria, which are factored into the final result with different weights. Each work can reach a maximum of 100 points. This number may be reduced based on the jury’s decision, due to extraneous aspects. The final result achieved is the percentage difference between the maximum possible and the achieved scores. In the rest, it is the same as scoring judging.

Point limits:
In the case of both scoring methods, only those models that reach the point limit required for awarding the given medal will receive a medal. In the event that no model in the category reaches the point limit required to win a medal, the prizes will not be awarded.

Hobby categories:
bronze medal level 70 points
silver medal level 74 points
gold medal level 78 points
Master categories:
bronze medal level 78 points
silver medal level 82 points
gold medal level 86 points
Master’s degree level 90.00 points

No master’s certificate will be awarded at the competition this year!

Jury
Visual inspection: consists of at least two members, with one reserve member if possible.

Scoring: In all cases, the jury consists of three members, with one reserve member if possible.

Master categories: In all cases, the jury consists of three members, with one reserve member if possible. At least two of whom have a master’s degree in the given section and each member has competed in a Hungarian competition in the last 5 years. The organizer can delegate a maximum of 1 person to the members of the master’s jury.

The reserve member is included in the judging if one of the members of the main jury started as a competitor in the given category. Those who started may not participate in the evaluation and may not be present during the judging. So modelers who are invited to judge do not have to choose between competing and judging. If there is no reserve member available, the person invited to the jury can only be nominated as an exhibitor in the category he/she is judging, or the already entered work will automatically be reclassified as exhibited.

President of the jury

External member independent from the organizer. Supervises the work of the jury, makes a decision in the event of a controversial/problematic situation. Leads the committee in the event of a protest.

Protest
On October 12, 2024, after the announcement of the results, (3:30 p.m.) you will be able to register until 4:00 p.m., for a deposit of HUF 10,000. It is judged by a three-person committee, whose members are the jury president, a jury member from the relevant section and the main organizer. If the committee determines that the warning is justified, the result will be modified and the deposit will be refunded.

Competitors who, after the protest period, question the legitimacy and purity of the results, or criticize the professional competence of the judge (on any internet forum or live), will be banned from further competition at all events organized by the Bolyai Maket Club Association based on the decision of the ethics committee.

Awarding
Gold, silver and bronze medal prizes are awarded in the categories, more of them per category, based on the jury’s decision or the scores achieved, but a competitor can receive a maximum of one prize within a category. All prize winners also receive a certificate. In addition, sponsorship and brand awards are also included in the awards, which are given based on the decision of the donors or the organizers. The “Best of show” prize can be awarded to a work selected by the members of the Bolyai Maket Club Association, based on the decision of the jury president in case of a tie.

Given back
Models given back only after the announcement of the results, in small groups, under supervision, against the vouchers received at the time of registration. Anyone who loses or does not bring the verification slip with them can only collect their model after all other models have already been collected.
